payment posting in medical billing

What is payment posting in medical billing?

Careful payment posting gives you a clear view of your practice’s finances and makes problems easier to spot and fix.

Posting is often where payer problems first show up. Medical-necessity denials, non-covered services and authorization issues become visible here, so our team can deal with them right away.

We reconcile every posted payment against your bank deposits each day. Our experienced billers know how to read EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) from every major payer, and we always look for the most efficient, cost-effective way to post your payments.

Automatic Posting Software

When payments are posted automatically, our staff reviews them to catch software errors such as negative balances, underpayments and take-backs.

How it works

Accurate posting, every day

Receive

ERAs, EOBs, lockbox files and patient payments are collected every day.

Post

Payments, adjustments and patient responsibility are posted line by line to the right claims.

Check

Each payment is compared with the expected amount, so underpayments and denials are flagged right away.

Reconcile

Posted totals are matched to bank deposits, so your books and your bank always agree.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an ERA and an EOB?

An ERA (electronic remittance advice) is the electronic payment explanation from the payer, posted automatically in most systems. An EOB (explanation of benefits) is the paper or PDF version, which is posted manually.

Why does accurate posting matter?

Posting errors hide denials and underpayments, create false credit balances and send patients wrong bills. Accurate posting is the base of every AR and financial report.

Do you post patient payments too?

Yes. We post insurance and patient payments, including card, check and online portal payments.
